In need of a shave and cut
I met Thomas and Rune in Rotterdam, the Netherlands while I was doing some long exposures of the Kop-van-Zuid from near the Veerhaven. We got to talk and they saw I was taking photos with a ‘big Leica camera’ which looked like a tank according Rune. They told me they were visiting Rotterdam for the weekend, rented a ship in the Veerhaven through Air BNB and that they came to Rotterdam to visit a famous barber in Rotterdam of which they couldn’t exactly pronounce the name, Schorem. We spoke a bit more about photography and what I usually photograph. I told them I usually like to do people, in their surroundings or specific portraits. Having a lot of different guys at Schorem they said I should come over the next morning while they would get a cut and shave at the barber to do some portraits maybe. This sounded like a plan.
First come first served
Schorem is a true man styled barber you can’t make an appointment, you just have to show up as early as possible and wait in line for your turn. Dogs are allowed but your girlfriend is not or any females for that matter, except female dogs I thing. While you wait for your turn now and then the fridge (see above) is opened and everyone can come get a beer! Rune and Thomas already arrived long before Schorem opened at eleven, and it was finally their turn around twelve. But the wait was worth it according to Rune and Thomas, plus they liked the atmosphere and all the classic styled pomades.
Back in the Veerhaven, two freshly cut gents
Thomas and Rune got their hair and beard nicely restyled by the guys from Schorem and got the pomades and beard oils they wanted and needed of course. So it was time for some lunch and a walk around town. After showing the gents what Rotterdam had to offer to tourists and it’s inhabitants we headed back to their ship for some photos of their new hair and beard styles.
